2024 Audi A5: Powertrain 

The Audi A5 offers several powertrain options, with the most notable being the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 201 bhp. This engine features a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), enhancing output efficiency with minimal turbo lag. 

Another available option is a lower-spec 2.0-liter TFSI engine generating 148 bhp. The higher-spec engine is offered with both front-wheel drive (FWD) and quattro all-wheel drive (AWD), although it is expected to be available in India with FWD only. This powertrain does not include a mild hybrid system.

Additionally, the A5 comes with a 2.0-litre TDI engine delivering 201 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, paired with the new MHEV Plus mild hybrid system. This system incorporates a motor generator that provides 24 bhp as torque fill, enhancing performance and reducing emissions. It also regenerates power, feeding it back into the battery at 25 kW. The MHEV system assists with braking by handling initial deceleration through regeneration, with mechanical brakes engaging for stronger braking needs. The mild hybrid system powers the AC and other electrical systems from the battery, allowing for low-speed maneuverability using only electric power.

The Audi A5, which globally replaces the A4, is 67 mm longer and 13 mm wider than its predecessor. The front features a single-frame grille with a honeycomb structure, aligning with Audi's new design language.

The LED headlights and tail lamps include up to 60 signature animations that provide situational information. The A5 sedan adopts a hatchback design at the rear from the A5 Sportback, facilitating easier loading and unloading of luggage into the boot.

The interior of the Audi A5 follows Audi's latest interior architecture, initially introduced with the Q6 e-tron. The redesigned steering wheel and dashboard layout stand out, with the driver facing an 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster. 

The dashboard is dominated by a large 14.5-inch infotainment display, accompanied by a 10.9-inch passenger display. The traditional gear stick has been replaced by a toggle gear selector, creating additional space on the center console for storage and cupholders. AC controls are now integrated into the touchscreen display.

The Audi A5 family includes digital daytime running lights with LED technology at the front and second-generation digital OLED rear lights. Each digital OLED panel contains around 60 segments, increasingly serving as a display at the vehicle's rear. This enables car-to-x communication, enhancing road safety with features such as the new communication light. 

Dynamic lighting effects when unlocking and exiting the vehicle reflect Audi's light DNA aesthetics, with active digital light signatures adding a new sense of liveliness. The three-dimensional design of the headlights and rear lights, with optional digital light signatures, bridges the physical and digital realms.
