What’s New in the GMC Sierra EV: A Detailed Overview

General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV pickup trucks in 2022. Where the Silverado is more or less a regular electric pickup, the Sierra EV is the more premium offering. GMC Arabia recently revealed that it will be bringing the new Sierra EV pickup to the Middle East (KSA included).

The GMC Sierra EV is built on the same GM BT1 (Ultium) platform that the Hummer EV is based on. This GMC pickup rivals the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, RAM 1500 REV, etc. While pickup trucks are customer favorites in this region, only time will tell how successful their electric avatars fare.

Variants & Price

In the U.S., the 2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali starts at around USD 92,000 or roughly SAR 345,000. The price mentioned for the American market is for the Crew Cab Short Bed variant with the Extended Range option. Expect a sharp uptick in the price once this EV makes landfall in Saudi Arabia.

At present, the regular GMC Sierra LD pickup starts at SAR 189,500 in KSA. For some more context, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup starts from SAR 590,600 – the GMC Sierra EV will cost less. The American automaker will likely introduce the Sierra EV Denali in KSA, if not a market-specific variant.

Exterior

The GMC Sierra EV is an impressive sight to behold – perhaps eclipsed in size only by the gargantuan Hummer EV. The strong and muscular body of the Sierra EV looks bold and imposing, especially when viewed head-on. The sculpted hood sits pretty high while the sealed-off grille is flanked by large LED daytime running lights.

The carved bumper integrates square LED headlights that are nestled next to the small openings for the air curtains. Located further down in the front bumper are small LED foglights. The roofline is fairly sleek and the lower windowline is angular, which looks good. The chiseled side profile of the Sierra EV reveals some prominent ridges and crisp bodylines.

Depending on the variant, the Sierra EV can get 24-inch wheels with thick all-terrain tires for optimum off-road traction. Then there are the large & sturdy footboards, useful when trying to get into the cabin. The noticeably tall rear of the Sierra EV sports LED taillights, a multifunction split-tailgate, and a sturdy bumper with integrated steps and a trailer hitch.

The GMC Sierra EV Denali is 5,923.8 mm long, 2,129 mm wide, and 1,985.2 mm tall. Meanwhile, the wheelbase of this electric pickup is 3,700 mm. The frunk has a capacity of 311 liters, while the main bed has a cargo capacity of 1,628 liters.

Interior

The cabin of the GMC Sierra EV (Denali) is distinctly upmarket and boasts well-crafted & quality materials. This, along with a few physical buttons, leads to a feeling of tangible sophistication and a degree of high workload disconnect. GMC has seamlessly amalgamated open-pore wood inlays with stainless steel, aluminum accents, quilted & stitched leather, reflective UV-coated glass, and chrome.

The leather-clad seats are some of the most comfortable, whilst space for five adults isn’t a concern. The wide cabin and fixed panoramic glass make this interior feel spacious and airy. Of course, the high seating position provides a great view out and possesses a charm of its own. Apart from some tire roar, the Sierra EV’s cabin is quiet.

The driver gets an 11-inch full-color instrument cluster with multiple display modes, plus a 14-inch color head-up display. The split-screen, portrait-style 16.8-inch touchscreen thankfully incorporates a few physical controls and built-in audio/video streaming services. There’s a 7-speaker Bose audio system, wireless charging, multi-zone automatic climate control, heated & cooled seats, and 120V/240V V2L outlets.

The GMC Sierra EV can be had with adaptive air suspension, selectable drive/terrain modes, smartphone connectivity, plus high-definition surround-view cameras. It gets automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, over-the-air software updates, Wi-Fi hotspot, and a trailer hitch-view camera. The Sierra EV has multiple storage areas and cupholders – this interior isn’t lacking in practicality.

Engine and performance

The GMC Sierra EV features two electric motors, one on the front and one on the rear axle. These come together to provide four-wheel drive and generate 760 hp and 1,064 Nm of torque. GM estimates a maximum range of 460 miles (740 km) for the Sierra EV Denali with the 200-kWh battery pack.

In the so-called Max Power mode, the Sierra EV pickup can go from 0-60 mph (0-96 kmph) in 4.5 seconds. Not only is it brisk, but you can tow up to a maximum of 10,000 lbs. (roughly 4.5 tons) with the Sierra EV. It may not be super enthusiastic about diving into corners, but this electric pickup comes with four-wheel steering.

Like the Hummer EV, the Sierra EV gets GMC’s CrabWalk feature – it can (somewhat) go sideways! This means that you can navigate the streets with relative ease at low speeds, whilst high-speed stability is uncompromised. It may not be fast at the high end, but driving the GMC Sierra EV should be a fun experience.

Safety

The GMC Sierra EV obviously gets a multitude of safety features, including all the basic/necessary nannies. The U.S.-spec model gets GM’s Super Cruise adaptive cruise control tech with auto-emergency braking and collision detection. You can also expect lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning, cross-traffic alert, etc.

Conclusion

While it hasn’t been launched yet, the new GMC Sierra EV looks like an exciting car. It’s reasonably quick and advanced whilst offering a comfy interior and plenty of modern features. If all goes well, we should see it in KSA sometime later this year.
