How much is the Vinfast VF9’s price? 

Vinfast hasn’t officially launched the 2024 VF9 in Saudi Arabia or the UAE. However, the latest iteration of the seven-seater SUV is expected to be priced between USD 85,000 and 93,000.

What features does the Vinfast VF9 get? 

The 2023 VinFast VF9 comes equipped with a massive 15-inch head unit that is built around Google’s Android Automotive OS. They have come up with a 6-inch touchscreen display that would act as the control center for infotainment as well as the digital instrument cluster, which is fixed on the dashboard. 

Other features such as speed and navigation can be projected via the head-up display directly onto the windshield without the driver having to turn his/her head sideways. Furthermore, it has an integrated voice control feature, whereby the user will be in a position to operate the system with his or her voice without even touching the touchscreen. In case of long charges, passengers can also play games, and game consoles are integrated into the VF9 as well as an electronic commerce platform that can assist in charging for orders while on the move.

Plus models take comfort a step further with three climate zones to cater to rear-row occupants. Some of the convenient features include a hands-free power liftgate that will open by kicking under the rear bumper but is yet to reveal details of the dimensions of cargo space with all the seats laid flat.

What powertrain options are available?

Under the hood—though in the VF9’s case, it’s all-electric—the SUV is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering a combined 402 horsepower. The VF9 should hit 60 mph in as little as 6.3 seconds, which puts it on par with many of today’s mid-tier electric vehicles. The VF9 is offered with a single battery option: a 123.0-kWh pack. The Eco trim is expected to deliver up to 330 miles on a full charge, though that drops to 291 miles for the Plus trim due to its additional weight and features. According to VinFast, the VF9 can charge from 10% to 70% in about 35 minutes using fast-charging capabilities, making it a fairly convenient option for long-distance trips with quick charging stops.

What’s the range of the Vinfast VF9?

Vinfast claims that the VF9 will deliver a WLTP-rated range of about 594km. That’s not bad given its battery size and overall dimensions. 

How safe is the Vinfast VF9?

VinFast hasn’t held back when it comes to packing the VF9 with advanced safety features. Every model comes standard with an extensive suite of driver-assistance technologies, including automatic high beams and traffic sign recognition. The vehicle is also expected to perform well in crash tests, with more detailed results to be available through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Among the key safety features are automated emergency braking, which can prevent or mitigate collisions, and blind-spot monitoring to improve awareness on highways. The VF9 also includes lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist to help maintain positioning within lanes. Additionally, adaptive cruise control is standard and comes with lane-centering, making long highway drives more comfortable and less stressful.

How many color options are there?

The Vinfast VF9 is on sale in 8 color options: Crimson Red, Neptune Grey, Vinfast Blue, Sunset Orange, Deep Ocean, Brahminy White, Jet Black and Desat Silver. Of these, the Crimson Red strikes a good balance of being elegant but loud and attractive. So it’d be our pick of the lot. 

Should you buy the Vinfast VF9?

The 2023 VinFast VF9 presents itself as an intriguing new entrant in the crowded electric SUV market. Its bold design, luxurious interior, and an extensive list of standard features certainly give it a premium edge, especially considering that many high-end competitors would charge extra for similar tech. The VF9 impresses with its driver-assistance features, although its performance—while solid—may not blow away seasoned EV drivers, particularly those familiar with higher-performance models from Tesla or Mercedes. To truly succeed, VinFast will need to address some shortcomings, particularly in the areas of ride quality and range. While the VF9’s estimated range isn’t bad, it does fall short of the benchmarks set by more established electric brands. As VinFast refines its models and builds its reputation, both the VF9 and the brand itself hold significant potential. However, it might be wise to watch their progress over the next few years before making a hefty investment, as more refinements are likely to come.

What are my alternatives? 

If you still do not fancy the Vinfast VF9, you can have a look at the Kia EV6 instead, a car that’s much quicker and handles better. If the Kia isn’t your thing either, you could even have a look at the Mercedes-Benz EQA, a car that packs a lot more luxury than the Vinfast. The same goes for the Audi Q5, while the Jeep Wrangler is a lot more hardcore and will take you places that the Vinfast cannot even dream of.
