Toyota is currently offering the Fortuner in 4 variants: GX2 4X2, GX2 4X4, GX2 4X4 Diesel and VX1 4X4. The prices start from 1,23,510 SAR for the base variant, 1,34,320 SAR for the second one and 1,50,075 SAR for the third variant. If you opt for the top variant, it will cost you 1,57,665 SAR.  

How many variants are there in the Toyota Fortuner?

The Fortuner is available in two main variants: Standard and Legender. The Standard variant comes with all available powertrains, whereas the Legender is equipped solely with the 2.8-liter diesel engine paired with a 4x2 automatic transmission.

What features does the Toyota Fortuner get?

The Toyota Fortuner is well-equipped with an array of features, including an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 11-speaker JBL sound system and ventilated seats. In fact, there’s also wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and hands-free tailgate opening. 

Additional features include cruise control, automatic climate control, power-adjustable driver seats, a multi-information display, and keyless entry with push-button start. How spacious is it?

The Fortuner’s cabin remains one of the most comfortable in its class. The large, powered front seats provide excellent support for both shoulders and thighs, and the steering wheel's position ensures a comfortable driving posture with good visibility. The rear seats are equally comfortable, offering ample legroom, significant thigh support, and adjustable backrests. 

The third row is suitable for short trips, but access is somewhat cumbersome due to the narrow entry space. Once seated, the third row offers decent comfort with tight headroom and a low seating position, though it’s better than some competitors. The MG Gloster offers more third-row space, but the Fortuner is a close second.

What engine and transmission options are available?

The Fortuner is available with two engine choices: a new 204PS/500Nm 2.8-liter diesel engine and a 166PS/245Nm 2.7-liter petrol engine. Transmission options for the diesel engine include a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, while the petrol engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. 

Diesel variants offer both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options, whereas petrol variants come with a rear-wheel drive configuration only. The Fortuner accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 11.2 seconds, making it the quickest SUV in its segment, even outperforming the more powerful MG Gloster. Additionally, the new Fortuner is more refined and performs better, particularly in the 20-80 km/h sprint.

What’s the mileage of Toyota Fortuner?

The Toyota Fortuner delivers an ARAI mileage ranging from 10 kmpl to 14.4 kmpl. Specifically, the petrol variant offers a mileage starting at 10 kmpl, while the diesel variant achieves a mileage beginning at 14.27 kmpl. While those aren’t exactly impressive figures, they aren’t bad for a car of this size too. And most importantly, its direct rival, the Gloster, doesn’t return a good fuel efficiency too so the Fortuner has the upper hand here. 

How safe is the Toyota Fortuner?

The top-end Toyota Fortuner GR-S is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features. It boasts a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and includes 7 airbags for optimal protection: driver, passenger, 2 curtain, driver knee, driver side, and front passenger side. 

Additional safety measures encompass a seat belt warning, child lock, anchor points for child seats, and an overspeed warning. The vehicle is also fitted with speed-sensing door locks, an anti-theft engine immobilizer, a middle rear three-point seatbelt, and central locking.

How many color options are there?

The Toyota Fortuner is available in seven colors: Silver Metallic, Super White, Sparkling Black Crystal Shine, Phantom Brown, Platinum White Pearl, Avant Garde Bronze, and Attitude Black. Now while all of them look reasonably good, we think the white paint schemes stand out the most since the Fortuner is bought the most in those colour schemes. 

Should you buy the Toyota Fortuner?

The top-tier Fortuner and Legender models are priced higher than their competitors by a significant margin. The cabin does not represent a major upgrade in quality, lacks a sunroof, and retains its rugged, off-roader feel. 

However, Toyota has enhanced the interior features, increased performance for easier driving, and improved the four-wheel drive system for better off-road capabilities. Prospective buyers may struggle to choose between the visually appealing 4x2-only Legender and the fully equipped 4x4 Fortuner. The choice between aesthetics and off-road prowess is challenging, but for those seeking a robust, reliable off-roader with a straightforward attitude, the Fortuner is an excellent option.
