Mercedes AMG PureSpeed Speedster Inspired From F1 Cars Unveiled
SAUDI ARABIA : Mercedes-AMG has introduced the PureSpeed concept, a striking open-top speedster featuring an F1-inspired halo, built on the AMG SL-class platform. The PureSpeed marks the debut of Mercedes’ Mythos series, a collection of exclusive models designed for discerning car collectors.
Drawing aesthetic cues from both vintage race cars and Formula 1, the PureSpeed concept stands out with its distinct design. The front bumper is shaped into a sleek shark nose, adorned with a prominently displayed white AMG logo in the lower grille. Instead of a conventional windshield, the vehicle features a halo bar structure inspired by Formula 1. Now while there is a certain retro appeal to this car, it does look thoroughly modern as well and even modern-day tech junkies will absolutely love it.
The car’s design also incorporates flying buttresses, reminiscent of the 300 SLR driven by Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson during the 1955 Mille Miglia. Its paint scheme transitions from Le Mans red to graphite grey, evoking the iconic Mercedes that clinched victory at the 1924 Targa Florio, thereby imbuing the vehicle with historical significance and visual richness.
Aerodynamics are pivotal in the PureSpeed’s design, with the car employing carbon fiber components to enhance performance and efficiency. Carbon fibre is known to be not only light but quite strong too, giving best of both worlds. And yes, while it is expensive, there’s nothing else quite like it too. The vehicle also includes carbon wheel covers designed to optimize airflow around the wheels, improving brake cooling. Under the hood, the PureSpeed is anticipated to house the renowned AMG twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, familiar with the AMG SL 63. This engine produces 577 bhp and 800 Nm of torque.
In the SL 63 E-Performance variant, the output increases to 604 bhp and 850 Nm, with a plug-in hybrid powertrain pushing the total output to an impressive 804 bhp and up to 1420 Nm. It remains to be seen whether this hybrid technology will be available in the PureSpeed.
The Mythos PureSpeed’s exclusivity is emphasized by its limited production run of just 250 units. Targeted at the most ardent Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts and collectors, the vehicle’s pricing has not been disclosed but is expected to reflect its elite status, driven by its rarity and distinctive features.
