Ferrari F80 Revealed Globally

SAUDI ARABIA : The hypercar combines high performance with the latest hybrid technology and gets its design inspiration from the Ferrari Formula 1 car. It takes the crown of the most powerful road-legal Ferrari ever made, surpassing the iconic LaFerrari.

The Legendary Italian car maker, Ferrari has yet again made history by revealing the Ferrari F80, which is the fastest and most powerful road-legal Ferrari ever made. Powered by a hybrid twin-turbo V6 engine, the Ferrari F80 has earned the title of the most powerful Ferrari leaving behind the iconic LaFerrari in terms of performance.

The Ferrari F80 will be an exclusive limited-run car just like the Ferrari’s other high-performance supercars like the GTO, F40, and LaFerrari. The Italian car maker will produce 799 units of the F80, to keep alive the Ferrari’s tradition of making exclusive supercars. 

Ferrari F80: Powertrain Configuration

The Ferrari F80 is the epitome of art and so is its 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, which is paired with three electric motors, producing a combined output of 1,200 horsepower (900 horses from the engine and 300 horses from the electric motors) and 1,016 Nm of torque. The hypercar’s V6 engine is mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), derived from the F1 car.

This makes the F80 accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 2.15 seconds and 0 to 200 kmph in 5.75 seconds, which means that the F80 is slightly faster than the McLaren W1 which goes 0 to 100 kmph in 2.7 seconds and reaches 200 kmph in 5.8 seconds. Moreover, the Ferrari F80 has a top speed of 350 kmph (electronically limited), which is the same as the W1. The three electric motors are linked to a 2.28kWh battery pack, which offers enough power to deliver an all-electric range of 2km.

Ferrari F80’s F1-Inspired Technology

The Ferrari F80 comes loaded with F1-inspired technologies including special energy-efficient electric motors, active aero, active suspensions, and more which makes it the most powerful Ferrari ever made. 

• The active aero tech from the Ferrari Formula 1 car enhances downforce and reduces drag as the car speeds up.
• The Ferrari F80 also uses advanced carbon-fiber materials in its chassis to reduce weight and improve the stiffness of the frame, making the car’s handling better and sharper.
• The active suspension of the F80 keeps adjusting itself in real time, which enhances the handling and dynamics of the car to provide high-speed stability.
• The electric motors feature MGU-K and MGU-H systems, from the Formula 1 car. The MGU-K motor recovers kinetic energy and the MGU-H uses heat energy, to provide better acceleration.
• The CCM-R Plus brakes on the Ferrari F80 also incorporate F1-derived materials to provide enhanced stopping power.
• The F80 also gets Ferrari’s SSC 9.0 (Side Slip Control system) with digital twin technology that improves the overall handling of the car.

Ferrari F80: Drive Modes

The Ferrari F80 has three drive modes: Hybrid, Performance, and Qualify.

• Hybrid mode is the slowest one that saves energy and battery charge so that the MGU-K motor can give that extra boost when the car speeds up. It is the default drive mode setting of the F80.
• Performance mode balances performance and battery for continuous use, like on a racetrack or highway run. It doesn’t let the battery charge drop below 70 percent.
• Qualify mode is the most powerful one. It brings all the focus on delivering the highest power and torque output from the engine and the motors, to reach the 350 mph top speed.
