Volvo has once again proven its global excellence in automotive innovation. The all-electric Volvo EX90 has officially been crowned the 2024 World Luxury Car, beating strong contenders in the luxury segment. This announcement came just before the New York International Auto Show, a major event on the automotive calendar. The EX90 was evaluated by 96 expert journalists from 30 countries, who highlighted its clean design, advanced safety systems, and refined interior.

What Makes the EX90 a Winner

Volvo's success with the EX90 lies in its balance of comfort, style, and safety. The SUV offers a powerful 510-horsepower twin-motor setup that delivers a smooth and silent ride. But the victory was not just about performance—it was the brand’s dedication to form, function, and environmental responsibility that caught the jury’s attention.

The rounded front, flush window glazing, and smooth lines aren’t just for looks—they help with aerodynamics and energy efficiency. A big highlight is the placement of the lidar system, hidden in the roofline under a low-profile cover. Combined with cameras, radars, and sensors, it improves overall safety by offering a 360-degree view of the car’s surroundings.

Interior Excellence: Sustainability Meets Comfort

Inside, the EX90 sets a high bar for what modern luxury means. It uses Nordico upholstery, a leather-free material made from recycled and bio-based sources in Sweden and Finland. 

The cabin remains one of the quietest in its class and includes natural ambient lighting, back-lit wooden decor, and ergonomic seats. The seven-seat layout provides both comfort and practicality, especially with:

• 324 litres of boot space with all seats up.
• 697 litres of storage when the third row is folded.

This flexibility gives the EX90 a strong advantage for families needing space without losing elegance.

This win is not Volvo’s first. The brand previously took home the 2018 World Car of the Year for the XC60 and 2024 World Urban Car for the EX30. Notably, Samuelsson was named the World Car Person of the Year in 2018, further proving Volvo’s impact on the global stage.
