Kia has been pushing its electric crossovers intending to capture the thriving midsize SUV market. The EV5 is another product that is coming out of its stable and the brand has already announced that the 2025 model will be launched in South Korea, China, Mexico and Canada.
With the unveiling in Morocco recently, it is expected that the car will make its way to other markets including UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Sporty Outside
Like the elder sibling EV9, the EV5 has a boxy, squared-off design inspired by its ICE sibling and three-row SUV, Telluride. However, the lighting elements are thinner and look more futuristic while keeping the electric underpinning, the various angles and hard edges in mind, the compact proportions are much better.
The styling of the EV5 appears chunkier and more dynamic than EV9, with a different angular hood and the rear profile cutting off the otherwise straight-lined form nicely. The 20-inch wheels look striking in every sense and complement the overall dynamic profile.
Luxurious & High-tech From Inside
The is expected to come with a 5-seat layout and use of premium quality materials. However, it may also launch with a front bench seat in other global markets, offering seating for up to six passengers. To give the car a more eco-friendlier sense, the brand has used sustainable materials including plant-based leather and recycled plastic.
The EV5 is also expected to come with oodles of comfort including massaging seats, a beverage-cooling compartment and rear split seat functionality. A large digital dashboard takes centre stage with dual 12.3-inch displays including one for the infotainment and the other serving as the instrument cluster for the driver.
The Kia EV5 would come with a range of safety features including Smart Cruise Control, Lane Following Assist and Remote Smart Parking Assist 2.
Battery Range & Performance
The base EV5 could likely be called Light and might be offered with a rear-wheel drive setup with a 215hp single electric motor. The higher versions; Wind, Land and GT-Line would be offered with an all-wheel drive system, along with a powerful dual-motor setup, producing 308hp of power.
Likewise, the base model could feature a smaller 64 kWh battery, while the remaining trims may offer an 88 kWh pack. Though the range information is still under wraps, Kia would like to place EV5 in a similar league of rivals by offering up to 300 miles of range.
Rivals
The Kia EV5 competes against the likes of Ford Mustang Mach E, Volkswagen ID.4 and the Nissan Ariya.
