2025 BMW 1 Series Unveiled!

SAUDI ARABIA : The 2025 BMW 1 Series has made its global debut, showcasing a significant refresh for BMW's smallest offering. The new F70 generation represents an extensively revised version of the outgoing F40 model, retaining its foundational architecture while introducing a fresh design.

One of the key changes is in the nomenclature. The traditional "i" suffix for gasoline variants has been dropped. Thus, the base model 118i is now simply the 118, and the high-performance M135i xDrive is renamed the M135 xDrive. This change aligns with BMW's strategy to reserve the "i" badge exclusively for its electric vehicles.

Design-wise, the new 1 Series steers clear of the polarizing aesthetics seen in some recent BMW models. It adopts a more refined look with sleek headlights and slightly slimmer kidney grilles. The rear end features new taillights, a sharper bumper, and a more pronounced diffuser on the M Sport package cars. An interesting detail is the incorporation of the number "1" within the Hofmeister kink on the rear doors, adding a subtle touch of distinction.

In terms of dimensions, the new 1 Series has grown slightly. It now measures 4,361mm in length, an increase of 42mm, with a width of 1,800mm and a height of 1,459mm, which is 25mm taller than the previous model. Despite these changes, the car maintains its characteristic proportions with a long hood and sharp lines.

Inside, the cabin draws inspiration from the X1 SUV, featuring a driver-focused cockpit dominated by a single curved panel. This panel houses a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, both running the latest BMW iDrive 9 operating system. Physical climate control buttons have been replaced with on-screen controls within the touchscreen interface, reflecting a shift towards a more streamlined and modern interior layout.

Under the hood, the new 1 Series introduces a revised engine lineup. Notably, it debuts petrol models without the "i" badge. The lineup includes a 2.0-liter B47 4-cylinder turbo engine, producing 150 bhp and 360 Nm of torque, powering the 118d and 120d variants. The 120d variant benefits from a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, boosting output to 163 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. This mild-hybrid system also pairs with the 1.5-liter B38 turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol engine in the 120, delivering a combined system output of 170 bhp and 280 Nm of torque.

The range-topping M135 xDrive is equipped with a 2.0-liter B48 turbo petrol engine, generating an impressive 300 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. This powerhouse enables the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. All engines in the new lineup are now mated to a new 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, replacing the previous 8-speed automatic and six-speed manual options.
