Kalau bicara petrolhead, Helmi mungkin salah satu yang cukup ekstrim. Pengetahuan otomotifnya luas, pengalaman menulisnya dimulai sebagai anak magang di Majalah Autocar Indonesia. Sempat berpaling bekerja di perbankan, tapi passion di bidang otomotif yang tidak bisa diabaikan membuatnya berlabuh di OTO.com. Meski sehari-hari menggunakan Suzuki Skywave, tapi di garasi rumahnya ada motor tua yang sedang ia bangun. Helmi juga paham betul mobil lawas, terutama Mercedes-Benz karena ia datang dari keluarga yang menggemari merek Jerman itu.
