The Land Rover Defender 110 SUV has a diverse price range because of its multiple variants and sub-variants. Starting at SAR 292,330, the Defender 110 prices go all the way up to SAR 820,525. The SUV is priced on the higher side, it has its pros but isn’t what we would call a value-for-money package.

How many variants are there in the Land Rover Defender 110?

The Land Rover Defender 110 is available in six variants: S, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE, Sedona Edition, X, V8, and Octa. The S is the base variant and the Octa is the top variant. Additionally, the SUV has more than 25 sub-variants with different engine options and power outputs.

Which is the most value-for-money variant? 

The Land Rover Defender 110 X looks like the better value-for-money option among the other available variants. It is available from 300 horsepower to 425 horsepower AWD (all-wheel-drive) variants. 

The Defender 110 X shares many features with the higher Defender V8 including the surround sound speaker system, head-up display, heated steering wheel and 22-inch wheels along with many other features and Driver assist functions. 

The Defender 110 X is priced at SAR 479,435, which is SAR 31,740 more than the V8 model and almost half the cost of the Octa version. The X variant does shine as a value-for-money option, but if performance is what you crave for, then we think spending SAR 31,740 on the V8 model would be worth it.

What features does the Land Rover Defender 110 get? 

The Defender 110 is equipped with an 11.4-inch touchscreen multimedia console allowing you to manage media, connectivity, and other functions. It comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. There is a normal sound system on the S variant and a Meridian sound system on the higher variants. The X and V8 variants exclusively get Meridian’s surround sound audio system, a head-up display, and a heated steering wheel. 

It also gets an electric suspension system which lets you adjust the ride height and the ground clearance of the SUV. There is also an optional sunroof available in select variants. Other features of the SUV include keyless entry, push-button start wireless device charging, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and two-zone climate control on all variants except the V8 which has three-zone climate control. 

How spacious is it? 

The Land Rover Defender 110 is a big SUV, not only from the outside but from the inside as well. It is available in 5, 6 as well as 7-seater options and has a big storage space too.

The P300 (2.0-liter 4-cylinder Turbo) makes 300 horses and 400 Nm, the P400 MHEV (3.0-liter Inline-6 Turbo) delivers 400 horsepower and 550Nm. P425 MHEV (5.0-liter V8 Supercharged) that makes 425 horsepower and 625 Nm. On the other hand, the 300 PHEV (2.0-liter Turbo Petrol with an electric motor) has 309 horsepower and 540 Nm, and the P404 PHEV (2.0L Turbo Petrol with an electric motor) makes 404 horsepower and 640 Nm.

The Defender 110 V8 with a 5-liter turbocharged engine that delivers a peak output of 525 horsepower and 625 Nm of torque. It makes the SUV go from 0 to 100kmph in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 240 kmh.

The most powerful 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged engine on the Octa variant churns out 635 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. It makes the SUV accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in just 4 seconds and provides a top speed of 250 kmph.

What’s the mileage of the Land Rover Defender 110?

The Land Rover Defender 110 Diesel MHEV engine variants offer a mileage of 8-12 kmpl depending on the variant. The turbo petrol and petrol MHEV engine offers 6-10 kmpl mileage, while the petrol PHEV delivers a mileage of 30-40 kmpl.

Should you buy the Land Rover Defender 110?

The Land Rover Defender 110 is a capable SUV that impresses with its on-road as well as off-road capabilities. Tough and rugged on the outside, the Defender 110X has a luxurious and spacious cabin inside. 

Being an SUV that weighs more than 2.4 tonnes, the smaller engine variants do feel sluggish when you want to make those quick overtakes, but the more powerful V8 engine variants pack more punch and better performance to make up for the heavyweight. Being a big and heavy SUV, the Defender also has a significant body roll which you can experience while taking on the sharp corners. In the case of intense hard braking, the front suspensions dive a lot as all that heavyweight is shifted on the front suspension.

Our verdict on the Land Rover Defender 110 is simple and clear. If you are looking for a no-nonsense SUV with great looks, powerful road presence, spacious and luxurious cabin, and the capability to take on all terrains whether there are roads or no roads, then the Defender 110 is one of the best choices available in the market. 

However, if you want your Defender 110 to be one of the fastest SUVs on the road, then you can go for the more powerful V8 and the Octa models which offer impressive power and acceleration that is on par or even quicker than many sports cars.

What are my alternatives? 

The Land Rover Defender 110 is a pretty solid SUV with a powerful stance and ability to take on all kinds of terrains. It does not have any direct rivals but its alternatives include the Jeep Wrangler, Ford Bronco and the Mercedes G-Wagon. The Wrangler is also a very capable SUV renowned for its eye-catching rugged looks and off-road capabilities, it will also save you a few thousand Riyals as it comes significantly cheaper than the Defender 110. Similar is the case with Ford Bronco.

The other SUV that you can buy instead of the Defender 110 is the Mercedes G-Wagon, which comes in different engine options and seat configurations, just like the Defender. The G-Wagon offers even more luxury and better features than the Defender but is more expensive too.
