The base variant of the Hummer EV, at SAR 725,500, is what makes most sense for the ordinary buyer. However, the final amount you will pay for your Hummer EV will depend on how much customizing you do. Since there are so many such options in this class, the final cost will depend on all the accessories you would want to buy for your Hummer EV.

What features does the GMC Hummer EV get? 

The Hummer EV Pickup features impressive tech equipment. Starting from a massive 13.4-inch infotainment screen to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the new Hummer can boast of impressing an undistracted enthusiast. Importantly, GMC has teamed up with the creators of Fortnite from Epic Games to design the infotainment graphics.

The infotainment works just fine and there is no encounter of lag on it. The only thing was an intuition lacking UI/UX system. The system doesn't feel very intuitive and it will take a while before you get used to it. 

This being said, once you are used to it, that is perfectly alright; the competition has made so much progress in this regard that we feel it is high time GMC gets their ducks in a row for their automobiles and more so the electric ones. 

The high-definition display and cutting-edge visuals are simply stunning, but there's a noticeable lag in the system, implying that the hardware struggles to keep up with the advanced software. Still, the vehicle comes equipped with a range of standard connectivity options, including wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, and GM's OnStar telematics system, so the driving experience won't be disconnected.

How spacious is it? 

The Hummer EV Pickup is crew-cab focused with a five-foot cargo bed, but for the price, you'd think there would be better premium materials inside. The cabin isn't any more spacious than you'd find in GMC's Sierra 1500 crew cab. 

On the other hand, the Hummer does feature removable roof panels that recall the classic T-top design first introduced on GM's muscle and sports cars of the 70s and 80s. Left open, these transparent panels work as just about any panoramic sunroof, but when removed and stored in the "frunk", it turns the Hummer into a very much open-air experience, like the Jeep Gladiator.

Inside the car, there are playful touches of details inspired by the moon such as a footprint of the moon boot on the dead pedal and the speaker grilles showing scenes from the Sea of Tranquility, a nod to GM's place in developing the Apollo 15 lunar rover with NASA.

What powertrain options are available?

At present, the Hummer EV Pickup offers two powertrain configurations: either a dual-motor setup or a tri-motor system. Both deliver all-wheel-drive capability, with the two-motor version producing 570 horsepower, while the more powerful tri-motor variant delivers a jaw-dropping 1000 horsepower. 

And that is exactly what translates to in the real world too. The acceleration is rapid and arguably the fastest in the segment. Although the vehicle’s blistering acceleration is undeniably impressive, its braking performance leaves much to be desired. In a test, the Hummer took 211 feet to come to a full stop from 70 mph—a distance far longer than expected—and subsequent braking tests revealed significant brake fade. 

Low-speed maneuvering, on the other hand, is surprisingly nimble, thanks to a rear-wheel-steering system, though the vehicle becomes as cumbersome to handle as other oversized, lifted trucks at higher speeds.

What’s the range of the GMC Hummer EV?

GMC claims that the Hummer’s range is more than 480km. Usually, it could easily get a range of anything around 451km, proving GMC to be just about right. 

How safe is the GMC Hummer EV?

The Hummer EV features GM's respected Super Cruise standard, a hands-free driving system that works well in testing. Other safety features include more traditional systems such as lane-keeping assist and blind-spot monitoring. 

Those shopping for the Hummer can check reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for additional information on its crash test ratings. Some notable features that make Hummer EV stand out are:

• Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection is also standard
• Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
• Adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode

How many color options are there?

It will be available in five distinct colors, namely Interstellar White, Void Black, Meteorite Metallic, Deep Aurora Metallic, and Moonshot Green Matte. Of these, we think that the Interstellar White looks pretty gorgeous and adds a bit of class and sophistication to this otherwise humongous electric SUV.

Should you buy the GMC Hummer EV?

It's just hard to recommend the Hummer EV Pickup as a sensible buy, especially when shelling out a top dollar and not getting anything especially pleasant on the driving experience. Yes, sure it's electric but that goes with the maintenance cost savings plus the Rivian R1T, for instance, is more energy efficient and costs less.

The rear-wheel steering is a nice trick, but little does it do to redeem the other deficits in this vehicle: it's large, not nimble at all on tight trails, lacks even a quick-engaging front locker, and doesn't even come with a spare tire. So, when poor braking is added to this list, well, that's your cue: there are better EV options out there.

What are my alternatives? 

One of the primary rivals for the GMC Hummer EV is the Chevrolet Silverado EV. It has Chevrolet’s legendary chassis, and the way the car drives and handles, it is no less than amazing. You can even think about the GMC Sierra EV, which many consider better looking than the slightly polarising Hummer EV. 

You can even think about the new Rivian R1T, a car that has a lot more technology and feels more modern on the whole.
