BYD is on a mission to expand its footprint with a broader range of vehicles. Their electric SUV, the BYD Atto 3, has been made more accessible by introducing two new variants: Dynamic and Premium. The previously single, fully loaded trim has been renamed Superior. As of now, BYD has pegged its price at 1,39,900 SAR.

What features does the BYD Atto have?

The Atto 3 is packed with a plethora of features, including a panoramic sunroof, digital driver's display, powered tailgate, powered front seats, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, an eight-speaker sound system, and a wireless phone charger. 

Safety is a priority with seven airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-descent control, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver assistance technologies such as forward collision prevention, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and blind spot monitoring.

How spacious is it?

Step inside the Atto 3, and the word "funky" immediately comes to mind. The design is bold and unconventional, with BYD embracing a daring approach. Some features, like the bass guitar strings on the door pads and the soft foam-like 'duvet' across the dash, are over-the-top, while others, like the wave pattern on the dash and the aircraft throttle-like gear selector, add a unique charm. 

The spacious cabin benefits from a large sunroof, ample legroom, and a flat floor due to its electric platform. However, the low seating position, likely due to the under-floor battery, detracts slightly from comfort. Rear passengers enjoy vents, USB slots, and easy ingress and egress. The Atto 3 also boasts a practical 440-liter boot, though it lacks a spare wheel, offering only a puncture repair kit.

What engine and transmission options are available?

The Atto 3 is powered by a single electric motor delivering 204PS and 310 Nm of torque. The SUV measures 4,455mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,615mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,720mm and a 440-liter boot capacity.

What’s the range of the BYD Atto 3?

The Atto 3's electric motor is paired with either a 50kWh battery pack (base variant) or a larger 60kWh battery pack. The smaller battery offers an ARAI-claimed range of 468 km, while the larger one promises 521 km. The base variant supports a 70 kW DC fast charger, achieving 0 to 80% charge in 50 minutes, whereas the other variants use an 80 kW DC fast charger with the same charging time.

How safe is the BYD Atto 3?

Safety features include seven standard airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), hill descent control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which are available exclusively on the top-end Superior variant. To sum it up, the Atto 3 does come across as a reasonably feature loaded car, especially at the price it comes at. 

How many color options are there?

The Atto 3 is available in six colors: Ski White, Parkour Red, Boulder Grey, Cosmos Black, Surf Blue, and a special edition Green. While all look quite nice on what is a good_looking car, we think the white color scheme really stands out among the others since white colors do look rather well on vehicles. 

Should you buy the BYD Atto 3? 

The Atto 3, though not designed for aggressive cornering, offers a comfortable and relaxed driving experience. It performs best when driven smoothly rather than pushed hard, where it tends to roll and the steering feels less responsive. Despite these quirks, the Atto 3 is well-rounded, featuring a smooth ride, a well-appointed cabin, and extensive driver-assistance technology. 

Its standout battery technology and impressive real-world range of approximately 400 km further enhance its appeal. However, at Rs 33.9 lakh, it is on the pricier side compared to rivals offering similar performance for less. If you prioritize refined driving manners and unique style, the Atto 3 could be the EV for you. It’s not for everyone, but it certainly stands out.

What are my alternatives? 

The BYD Atto 3 serves as a slightly premium alternative to the other Chinese electric vehicle in this segment, the MG ZS EV. Apart from that, there are no real rivals for this Chinese car in this segment of electric vehicles.
