BMW X1 Overview
How much is the BMW X1’s price?
The BMW X1 is on sale for AED 220,000.
How many variants are there in the BMW X1?
BMW sells the X1 in 1 variant, the sDrive20i (xLine) variant.
Which is the most value-for-money variant?
Since the car is on sale in 1 variant, that is the one we recommend the most. But again, the final price of the X1 you buy will depend on how much you decide to spec the car out from BMW’s configurator. And given that BMWs can be modified a lot, your final bill could vary a fair bit.
What features does the BMW X1 get?
The baby SUV, X1, from BMW, sells with one of the highest infotainment setups in the auto. The kind of technology found inside this car is the same as those seen in the electric SUV, iX, or the 7-Series flagship sedan. Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as SiriusXM satellite radio.
Where a wireless charging pad for your smartphone is an add-on, the Premium package does offer some proper premium features, which come in the form of its head-up display, a superior Harman/Kardon sound system, and its 360-degree exterior camera system which enhances visibility and safety.
How spacious is it?
From the inside, the cabin of the X1 stands as a modern, well-designed space that focuses on form and function. From toggle-switch gear selectors to that floating center console, its interior comes marked with touches of futurism. The all-digital dashboard fits nicely into these designs.
Design elements will include textured speaker grilles and open-pore Eucalyptus wood trim, which are offered on models and will add a layer of sophistication to the cabin. Making life easier, dual-zone automatic climate control, lighting for ambiance, and even a power liftgate. There are loads of options to indulge your luxury appetite with a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and heated steering wheel.
What powertrain options are available?
Base xDrive28i trim of the X1 has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which has 241 hp. Standard all-wheel drive is also part of the package, along with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. On paper, the engine's output looks pretty enticing; in reality, it will sometimes feel somewhat sluggish while overtaking on highways or entering moving traffic due to this noticeable turbo lag.
On the bright side, the X1 suspension is tuned for agility, so it's a real pleasure to drive on twisty roads. If you want to add even more dynamics, there's the M Sport package that can be included, if desired, which contains such niceties as an adaptive suspension and paddles on the steering wheel-although it wouldn't be confused with its true counterpart: the full-on performance version, the M35i.
At the top of the X1 range is the M35i, which boasts an up-sized, 312-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, adaptive suspension, and high-performance brake systems. Again, this version of the X1 is a more exciting, sportier car to drive, with tighter handling and superior braking, but it is a bit of a penalty hammer: its ride can be too firm, and sometimes its engine surges erratically.
What’s the mileage of the BMW X1?
In terms of fuel consumption, the EPA estimates that the X1 xDrive28i will return 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The sportier M35i model drops a bit: 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.
How safe is the BMW X1?
All models of the BMW X1 come standard with driver-assist technologies, such as automatic emergency braking and parking sensors. However, if more advanced safety options are of importance, the BMW offers self-parking and adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, among others.
Available as an option for those who want to see the X1's crash safety is a trip to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety website where there are results of a complete test. Useful safety features that differ based on the model include:
- Automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection as standard
- Standard lane-departure warning and blind-spot monitoring
- Optional adaptive cruise control with lane-centering functionality
How many color options are available for BMW X1?
The 2024 BMW X1 is on sale in 2 color options: dark orange and white and blue. We think the white color with the blue inserts looks fantastic and very much in line with BMW’s racing colors. If you want more variety, you can always head to BMW’s configurator to spec your X1 out.
Should you buy the BMW X1?
Yet, the X1 is one of the most elegant new additions from BMW, having increased in size and therefore commanding more road presence in these alternatives by resembling a more 'traditional' SUV, at least when compared to the early rungs on the ladder. Cabin space has increased to accommodate this bulkiness, which is roomier than before and not up to par with generous side windows, a more adventurous design, and significant luxury appointments and materials updates.
On the pricing front, the X1 is good value for the premium features it fits inside. But there are some limitations. There is no all-wheel-drive option, which seems to make it one of the very few vehicles at this level that cannot provide the additional peace of mind an owner would get from it.
Still, it remains competitive at bay, even if it's no longer the absolute performance leader in its class. More than that, however, the X1 is no longer the poster child for driving enthusiasts alone and will now appeal to a wider spectrum of buyers with its new improved overall package.
What are my alternatives?
If you are not yet convinced by the BMW X1, then probably you should go and take a look at some of its competitors. And of course, the biggest competitor, in our mind, is the new Audi Q3-a car that we think has far better interiors, especially the quality.
Then you also have the Mercedes-Benz GLA Class, a car that has a better road presence and if you want a lifestyle product, the Mercedes might impress you more. And finally, you could even think of the Jaguar E-Pace, a car that comes with Jaguar's legendary reliability and sturdy built quality.
