Suzuki Ends Production of Iconic Jimny and Swift Sport in the UK

SAUDI ARABIA : Adapting to emission standards, Suzuki discontinues four of its popular models in the UK market.

Suzuki has announced that it will cease the production of four of its models in the UK, including the Jimny and Swift Sport, considering stringent regulations on emission standards.

• The zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) mandate of the UK government has prompted Suzuki to discontinue the Jimny, Swift Sport, Swace, and Ignis.
• These four models will no longer be available in the UK market.
• Suzuki is planning to launch a new electric SUV based on the eVX concept by the second half of 2025.

Impact of Emission Standards on the Lineup of Suzuki

The sales of electric cars in the UK got a boost after its government announced the ZEV mandate. This protocol prompted Suzuki to phase out the Jimny and Swift Sport from UK showrooms. The brand announced that it will also discontinue the Swace and Ignis models in the country.

Since 2020, Jimny has been available only as a two-seat commercial vehicle in Europe. It is likely to be phased out soon. The Swift Sport, Swace, and Ignis models will also see their production come to an end in the UK due to strict emission regulations.

Transition to Electric Vehicles

Suzuki is planning to introduce a new electric vehicle to replace the phased-out models. This new EV is likely to be a small SUV based on the eVX concept and is expected to debut in the second half of 2025. The electric vehicle will have a Dual-motor AWD configuration and a 60 kWh battery pack. A single charge will power the vehicle up to 550 Km.

While four prominent Suzuki models are set to leave the UK market, the brand is focussing on electric cars in the future.  This reflects Suzuki’s commitment to meeting emission standards, which is likely to keep the brand competitive in the market.
