Mercedes-AMG Unveils Its First In-House Developed, All-Electric High-Performance SUV

SAUDI ARABIA : In an interesting development, Mercedes-AMG has crafted a high-performance SUV entirely in-house for the first time in its 57-year history.

• For the first time, Mercedes-AMG has designed an entire SUV from the ground up, including its structure, powertrain, and high-performance design.
• With its philosophy of “AMG First, EV Second,” AMG aims to lead in the electric performance vehicle market without compromising its traditional appeal. 

• It pushes its SUV legacy forward, aptly naming the model ‘Born in Affalterbach’

 Built on the AMG.EA electric platform which is exclusive to AMG, this model marks a new era where electrified power meets the high performance that the iconic brand is known for. This winter, the initial test drives for the full-size SUV are scheduled to start. Eventually, it signifies a significant step as AMG expands into electrified performance vehicles.

A Legacy of High-Performance SUVs

For more than 25 years, high-performance SUVs have been integral to the lineup of Mercedes AMG. It all started with the launch of the ML 55 AMG. This particular model captivated automotive enthusiasts and established the ground for the success of AMG in the performance SUV market. 

Currently, the lineup of AMG includes six classes of SUVs, including the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, and EQE SUVs. The Mercedes-AMG G 63 continues to be the most outstanding model in this category. It is celebrated for its off-road capabilities and strong power, while it achieves impressive fuel economy and efficiency in terms of emissions.

The "Born in Affalterbach" SUV is built to uphold and expand this legacy. This new model is the second vehicle of AMG based on its AMG.EA platform. The first AMG.EA model is currently being tested. This will also be the sixth vehicle to be developed completely by the Affalterbach team of AMG. The new SUV, with its bold entry, promises to further strengthen the position of AMG in the EV market.

The electric technology further enhances its power and range. The Chairman of the Board of Management of AMG, Michael Scheibe, stressed that the SUV follows the philosophy of “First, EV Second”. No wonder, the model carries the core qualities in terms of performance and emotion, while excelling as an EV.
