    Know the Background

BMW made a significant leap in rear-seat entertainment with the launch of the 7 Series, featuring a fold-down 31.3-inch screen known as the 'Theatre Screen.' This system includes a massive 8K screen that electrically folds down from the roof, providing rear-seat passengers with an unparalleled viewing experience.

However, the Indian version of the long-wheelbase 5 Series does not include this owner-pleasing feature. The question arises: why has such a notable feature been omitted?

BMW 5 SeriesWhy was it left out?

The challenge of assembling the 5 Series in India was already significant, as explained by Jean-Philippe Parain, Senior Vice President of BMW Group. To simplify the process, the panoramic display was excluded from this model. This decision removed an additional hurdle in the local assembly of the vehicle.

Despite this omission, BMW has not completely abandoned the idea of bringing this feature to India. Although it is not currently available, Parain indicated that BMW is considering introducing the Theatre Screen at a later stage. These thing said, BMW already sells the screen in the long-wheelbase 5 Series in China and that makes it only the second car globally to offer this feature.

    What is the theatre screen?

BMW’s Theatre Screen is essentially a high-quality video streaming divide that you can use on the go, for it boasts of an extremely high resolution of 8000x2000 pixels.

BMW 5 SeriesWill it be a dealbreaker?

While BMW has not disclosed a timeline for the introduction of the large rear screen in the new long-wheelbase 5 Series, its eventual addition is expected to generate significant interest. This feature could compensate for the absence of adjustable rear backrests in the 5 Series LWB, making it an attractive option for potential buyers.
