What to Expect from the 2025 Audi A5 Sedan

Audi is reassigning the names of its cars based on their powertrain technology. Models that use the internal combustion engine (ICE) will have odd-digit names, such as the 2025 Audi A5 Sedan. Meanwhile, Audi EVs will be allocated even-digit names: A4, A6, Q8 e-tron, etc. All that said, the old A4 sedan has been transformed into the new A5 sedan.

Of course, Audi offers the new A5 in both Sedan and Avant forms based on the market. Considering that sedans do better than their station wagon counterparts, we will concentrate on the 2025 Audi A5 Sedan. The highly-anticipated compact luxury sedan will be launched in the Middle East later this year or early next year.

The Ingolstadt-based automaker has stated that the starting price of the 2025 Audi A5 Sedan in Germany is EUR 45,200. Meanwhile, the 2025 Audi S5 Sedan has a starting price of EUR 78,500. Upon their arrival at KSA dealerships, these prices will inflate to accommodate the 15 percent VAT and other miscellaneous costs.

Exterior

Before we get to the design, let us look at the exterior dimensions of the 2025 Audi A5 Sedan. It is 4,829 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,444 mm tall. The new A5 is a bigger car than the A4, and it shows. The wheelbase is now 2,897 mm, made possible by the new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture.

The boot is short but has been well-styled with a protruding rear extension. The fancy 3D LED taillights are show-stoppers with available animations and intricate welcome patterns.

Understandably, the 2025 Audi S5 Sedan looks even sportier and more aggressive. This comes down to several blacked-out or gloss black trim. These can be found in the headlights, grille & Audi logo, air intakes, ORVM housings, window surrounds, door handles, bumper garnishes, sharkfin antenna, and the small bootlid spoiler. As for the sporty quad tailpipes, those are garnished in chrome.

Interior

The interior landscape of the 2025 Audi S5 Sedan is surely one of modernity and quality. The designers have been careful to keep the luxury factor alive while injecting a generous dose of technology. The latter can be experienced with the sheer digital real-estate on offer. The Virtual Cockpit comprises an 11.9-inch display, with the main touchscreen being 14.5 inches across.

Moreover, there is an optional 10.9-inch MMI display for the front-seat passenger. The new A5 sedan comes with the Audi assistant that integrates ChatGPT – a system capable of recognizing over 800 voice inputs. It is programmed to answer everything from data sets related to weather, vehicle condition & telemetry, plus adjusting the HVAC system (amongst others).

The quality of materials has witnessed a noticeable upgrade, with the cabin of the new A5 feeling nicer than ever. There is soft Nappa leather along with actual wood trim in this interior, but there are also recycled materials from various plastic sources. No matter how you approach this cabin, the sense of premiumness has not left the scene.

There is plenty of space and comfort at the front, though the tallest of people may find the new A5’s rear seats to be a bit tight. The seats, though, are well-contoured and offer good support. Their adjustability and comfort levels are more than adequate. There is also no acute shortage of kneeroom in the back, though the S5’s darker trim may hinder the sense of space.

Engine and performance

Compared to its A4 predecessor, the all-new Audi A5 Sedan comes with a powertrain generator (PTG). Being a mild-hybrid powertrain, Audi’s MHEV plus electrical system is all about improving efficiency. The 48-volt system is energized by a 1.7 kWh lithium-ion battery and has a belt alternator starter playing in the background.

The PTG outputs 18 kW or 24 hp, which fills in the gaps at low speeds. This enables drivers to maneuver whilst parking on electric power only – making for a quiet and effortless experience. The base 2.0-liter TFSI engine makes 148 hp and should return 15.1 kmpl or 6.6 L/100 km. It has a top speed of 216 kmph.

This 2.0-liter TFSI is also available with 340 Nm of torque and 201 horsepower. In this guise, the top speed of the A5 is 245 kmph. This version is also quicker, taking 7.6 seconds to reach 100 kmph – 2.2 seconds quicker than the base A5. The 2025 Audi S5 Sedan uses a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 362 hp and 550 Nm.

Understandably, the S5 is faster. It maxes out at an electronically-limited top speed of 250 kmph. It is brisk to 100 kmph as well, reaching the mark in 4.5 seconds. All variants of the 2025 Audi A5 are equipped with the brand’s 7-speed S tronic (dual-clutch) automatic transmission.

While the A5 drives well, the S5 is a different breed altogether. It gets launch control, specialized performance tires, torque vectoring, a sports differential, and Audi S adaptive sports suspension. This makes driving the S5 an experience that combines sportiness and everyday ride comfort. It is not as playful as the BMW 3-Series, but the new A5 is a balanced experience.

Safety

The 2025 Audi A5 Sedan comes with plenty of equipment that makes this a safe family vehicle. Some of the few notable features include 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control with auto-emergency braking, and driver drowsiness alert. Beyond these, there is blind-spot warning, lane-departure warning, cross-traffic alert with braking, traffic-jam assist, GPS-based speed alerts, rear-occupant alert, etc.

Conclusion

The new mild-hybrid system of the 2025 Audi A5 means that there is notable improvement in fuel efficiency. The system also allows the A5 to be driven at low speeds on electric power, resulting in quiet and frugal operations. The suave exterior and a functional but tech-driven interior make for a pleasant ownership experience, considering the German premium car segment.

The 2025 Audi A5 will not thrill you the way an equivalent BMW 3-Series will, but it will feel fulfilling in most scenarios.
