Volkswagen Transporter MPV Teased Before Official Unveil Later This Year

SAUDI ARABIA : Volkswagen has now officially teased the forthcoming Transporter MPV, set to make its global debut at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover, Germany, this September. This new model aligns with Volkswagen's refreshed MPV lineup, which includes the previously introduced Bulli concept.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What type of external styling is the next Transporter van going to have?

The headlights, front grille, and C-shaped LED lights have all been updated for the 2017 Volkswagen Transporter.
  • VolkswagenThe Transporter shows up with a fresh, redesigned grille, newly designed headlamps, and new C-shaped LED lights. It also gets distinctive character lines running horizontally along the tailgate. A notable collaboration with Ford is behind the development of this new Transporter MPV. Although both companies have formed multiple joint agreements to manufacture and share products for the global market, they operate independently for this project.

The new Transporter will be built at Ford's Otosan plant in Turkey, sharing body panels and underpinnings with the Ford Transit Custom MPV. For the first time, the Transporter will also be available as an electric vehicle (EV), thanks to a new platform. The electric and plug-in hybrid versions will feature a charging flap located beneath the right headlight.

Ford's electric motors, batteries, units, transmissions, and framework will power the Transporter. It will offer a variety of drivetrain options, including diesel, gasoline plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric, similar to the Transit. The electric 'E-Transporter' is expected to have a rear-axle-mounted motor with power outputs of either 134bhp or 215bhp, and a range of approximately 380 kilometres, mirroring its Ford counterpart. Other powertrain options will include a 222bhp plug-in hybrid with an 11.8kWh battery and 2.0-litre diesel engines producing 118bhp and 149bhp.

VolkswagenAlbert Kirzinger, Volkswagen's Chief Designer, remarked that the Transporter is easily recognized as a car and that is how legendary that nameplate is for the brand. He further explained that its design has consistently followed the Bulli’s design language. We can see that in the main body, which is contoured right under the side windows in a way we have now come to expect from Bulli.

The new Transporter MPV from Volkswagen is eagerly anticipated, given its blend of advanced features and adherence to the iconic design heritage of its predecessors. The strategic collaboration with Ford, combined with the innovative design and versatile powertrain options, positions the Transporter as a significant player in the MPV market.

The introduction of electric and hybrid variants further underscores Volkswagen's commitment to sustainable mobility, making the new Transporter a compelling choice for modern consumers seeking both performance and eco-friendliness. As the IAA Transportation show approaches, all eyes will be on Hanover to witness the unveiling of this landmark vehicle.
