The Brand-new 5 Door Mini Cooper Is Here!

SAUDI ARABIA : MINI has unveiled the new-generation Cooper 5-door, expanding the lineup of the iconic British hatchback with a more practical variant. This new model complements the electric and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) versions of the hatchback, which debuted last year and earlier this year, respectively, although those were in the 3-door format. Currently, the new Cooper 5-door is available solely with an ICE powertrain.

The MINI Cooper 5-door retains the aesthetics and driving dynamics of its three-door counterpart while enhancing practicality. It features the same design cues, including a larger grille and updated headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs). The 5-door model also sports more practical alloy wheels with thicker sidewalls and continues the Union Jack-themed LED tail lights seen on the 3-door.

 

Significant changes are noticeable from the B-pillar onwards. The wheelbase has been extended by 71 mm, and the overall length has increased by 178 mm. These modifications make the second row more accessible, providing better legroom than the three-door model, although MINI has not specified the exact improvement. 

 

Additionally, the boot capacity has been expanded to 923 liters with the rear seats folded, surpassing the 800 liters available in the Cooper 3-door.As for the new engine options, there are two of them on offer on the new MINI Cooper 5-door. The base Cooper C is equipped with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 154 bhp and 230 Nm of peak torque. The more potent Cooper S comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, the same as in the 3-door model, delivering 201 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. 

The base model accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 8 seconds, while the Cooper S achieves the same in 6.8 seconds, making the 5-door slightly slower compared to the three-door version.

Inside, the cabin mirrors that of the three-door model, featuring a 9.4-inch central display that integrates most functions and information. The traditional toggle switches are maintained, but the conventional instrument cluster has been replaced by a head-up display (HUD). MINI's new approach focuses on minimalism, which is evident both in the interior and exterior design.

The latest iteration of the MINI Cooper 5-door emphasizes practicality without sacrificing the brand's distinctive style and performance. By retaining key design elements and enhancing functionality, MINI aims to appeal to a broader audience seeking a blend of classic charm and modern convenience. With its expanded dimensions and updated features, the new Cooper 5-door is set to continue the legacy of the beloved hatchback, offering an attractive option for those needing a bit more space and versatility.
