The South Korean automaker Hyundai has recently unveiled teaser images of its much-anticipated IONIQ 9 SUV. The three-row all-electric SUV will write a new chapter in the brand’s firm commitment towards electrification. The flagship SUV is expected to make its global debut this year with an official launch slated for 2025.
Exterior
The number ‘9’ signifies a large vehicle class in the brand’s IONIQ lineup, marking its debut in the domain of large SUV EV models. The IONIQ 9 features an aerodynamic design carrying forward the momentum generated by siblings IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 models.
The design takes inspiration from a boat, which characterizes sleek styling and spaciousness. The LED lights at the front are slender featuring Parametric Pixels that are also there in other IONIQ models. The dynamic character lines on the sides remind of diagonal traditional lines of Korean clothing Hanbok while the multi-spoke wheel design is in line with the dynamic character of the SUV.
Interiors
Based on the Hyundai Motor Group’s acclaimed Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the IONIQ 9 aims to redefine the EV experience with its spacious and comfortable interiors. The elongated wheelbase with a single-curved roofline ensures enough space for all occupants, including passengers in the third row.
More details of the interiors will be revealed when the car makes its official debut this month.
Engine
The IONIQ 9 is expected to house a 76 kWh battery pack, while there could be higher variants with bigger 100kWh battery. The power output is expected to be in the range of 200hp and 350hp.
Launch date
The release of the teaser image hints towards the imminent global unveiling of the IONIQ 9 SUV. Hyundai is currently preparing for the World Premiere that will occur in November 2024. The launch in South Korea and other countries, including the Middle East could happen in the first half of 2025.
Hyundai has been banking high on its EV production and sales performance last year, and the launch of IONIQ 9 comes at the time when Hyundai has crossed the production of its 100 millionth vehicle this year. The brand aims to achieve the milestone of 2 million EV sales by 2030.
