Bugatti’s Latest Hypercar Which Can Do 0-100kmph In 2 Seconds Is Here!
SAUDI ARABIA : First came the Veyron, then the Chiron, and now Bugatti introduces the Tourbillon. Unveiled today, this new hypercar boasts an astounding 1,800 horsepower, surpassing its predecessors in every way. The iconic 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine has been replaced with a 1,000 hp, 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16, paired with three electric motors producing an additional 800 hp. This combination makes the Tourbillon the most powerful Bugatti to date.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
How much horsepower does the Tourbillon produce?
1,800 horsepower (1,000 hp from the V16 engine and 800 hp from three electric motors). What is the significance of the term "tourbillon"?
In watchmaking, a tourbillon is a mechanical complication that enhances accuracy. The design of the Tourbillon draws inspiration from the Veyron and Chiron, featuring a carbon-composite body that is lighter and more aerodynamic with a lower roofline and a more imposing horseshoe grille. However, the standout feature is the car’s all-new interior, which includes a skeletonized instrument cluster made of titanium and sapphire glass, inspired by high-end Swiss watchmaking. The term "tourbillon" itself refers to a mechanical complication in watches that enhances accuracy.
To develop the naturally aspirated V16 engine, Bugatti collaborated with Cosworth, a renowned British engine manufacturer. This engine revs up to 9,000 rpm and produces power comparable to the original Veyron’s quad-turbo W16. Rimac, Bugatti-Rimac’s CEO, utilized his expertise in electric propulsion to pair the V16 with two electric motors driving the front wheels and a third at the rear. The 25 kWh oil-cooled 800-volt battery pack, located behind the passengers, provides an electric-only range of approximately 37 miles.
The Tourbillon is designed to be exceptionally fast. According to Emilio Scervo, Bugatti’s chief technical officer, early prototype tests indicate acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 2.0 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in 5.0 seconds, and 0 to 186 mph in 10.0 seconds. The top speed target is 445 kph (276 mph), but with a speedometer that goes up to 550 kph (341 mph), higher speeds are anticipated.
The engine is mounted low in the Tourbillon’s new, ultra-rigid body structure, which utilizes next-generation T800 carbon composites. It features a forged-aluminum multi-link suspension system front and rear, replacing the Chiron’s double-wishbone steel setup.
The 3-D-printed aluminum suspension components and AI-designed hollow airfoil arms at the rear are engineering masterpieces. The car features twin rows of wafer-thin LED lights, each less than half an inch thick, and a narrow panel on the hood that conceals a storage compartment large enough for custom-designed luggage.
Entering the Tourbillon through its dihedral “scissor” doors reveals one of its most striking features: a skeletonized instrument cluster inspired by Swiss watchmaking. Comprised of over 600 components, the cluster is crafted from titanium and sapphire glass with ruby accents. The three-dial cluster is fixed, with the twin spokes of the flat-bottom steering wheel rotating around it. Constructed with precision tolerances of 50 microns (the average thickness of a human hair), the entire cluster weighs just 25 ounces.
